23 members of the EUTM-S mission from Italy, Spain, Romania, Portugal and France received the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) Service Medal.

All of them having engaged in a variety of difficult and important activities that contributed to effective implementation of EUTM-S’s mandate.

The ceremony, held at the International Campus, was attended, among others, by the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Mario Daccò Coppi, the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Joachim WAERN, the Italian Defense Attaché, Navy Captain Mario De Rosa, the Commander of the SNA GDTC, Brigadier General Mohamed Mohamud Saney and representatives of French and UK Embassy, United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM),  United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), European Union to Somalia (EUDEL), European Union Capacity-building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP-S),  African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Türkiye-Somalia Mission (TURKSOM), United Kingdom Tangham Operation and United States Military Assistance Group – Somalia (MAG-S).

Before closing the ceremony, Gen. Poli awarded two military serving in Somali National Army, for their support of EUTM-S training activities, with the CSDP service medal and handed over to Gen. Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi (ATMIS) the medals awarded to two ATMIS Officers who returned to their country at the end of the mission.

Gen. Fulvio Poli, Mission Force Commander of EUTM-S, thanked the guests for their presence and recalled the importance and symbolic value that each military decoration represents.

The medals were presented by Gen. Poli, by the Deputy Mission Force Commander, Navy Captain Mats Fogelmark abd by Chief of Staff, Col. Josè Victor Garcia Planells.

The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Service Medal is an international military decoration awarded to individuals, both military and civilian, who have served in a CSDP mission such as the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S).
