Lieutenant General Giovanni Maria Iannucci, Commander of the Italian Joint Operations Command (COVI), visited the Headquarters of EUTM Somalia in Mogadishu, where he was welcomed by the Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Elio Manes.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Iannucci received an update on the Mission’s activities and met with senior representatives of the contributing Nationa and Italian personnel serving within EUTM Somalia. Together with Brigadier General Manes and the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, he also met with the Somali Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, and the Commander of the Somali Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud.
The visit reaffirmed Italy’s strong commitment to the European Union’s engagement in Somalia and its continued support to EUTM Somalia in strengthening the capabilities of the Somali Armed Forces and contributing to long-term stability and security.
